Earls Colne Church Choir

CHOIR PRACTICES
Thursdays, 6.30-7.30pm Juniors
Thursdays, 7.00-8.00pm Adults

All choir practices are held in St Andrew's Church, Earls Colne.

Major events in the choir calendar are the Advent Service (on Advent Sunday), the Service of Lessons and Carols (the Sunday before Christmas) and Holy Week services. The choir often sings anthems during the morning Sunday service. There is a full choral Evensong (Psalm, Magnificat, Nunc Dimittis and anthem) on the first Sunday of every month. The choir is also invited to sing at Chelmsford Cathedral during the summer, when the cathedral choir is on holiday.

The Junior Choir has a separate practice for half an hour on Thursdays and then the juniors sing with the adult choir for another half hour. New Junior Choir members, boys and girls, are welcome, from the age of 7 upwards, to come to practices and see how they get along. St Andrew's Church is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music and Junior Choir members have the opportunity to undertake training under the RSCM training scheme. For at least the past 10 years, Junior Choir members have attended residential RSCM singing weekends. Senior members of the choir regularly participate in the final Sunday service at these courses. Several junior members have trained for the Bishop's Chorister Award and 3 have been successful. They have recently been joined by 2 new adult Bishop's Choristers.

Singing in a church choir is an invaluable experience for a young boy or girl, gaining confidence through singing in public, and working with experienced adult singers on equal terms. Previous members of Earls Colne Junior Choir have gone on to sing with national youth choirs, such as Millenium Youth Choir and Cantate. If you are interested in joining the choir, as a junior or adult, please contact the organist, Bret Johnson.
